ABOUT MOLLIE MORRISSETTE | PET FOOD SAFETY NEWS
My name is Mollie Morrissette, and I am the founder and independent publisher of Pet Food Safety News.
My search for healthier pet food began nearly sixteen years ago with a terrifying moment that changed my life.
One night, my cat Blackie collapsed at my feet, unable to move. After rushing him to the vet, Blackie was diagnosed with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disorder. What I learned that night changed everything: Blackie had been eating only dry pet food, and the veterinarian told me that this may have contributed to his condition and that he should never eat dry kibble again.
That moment marked the start of my search for the healthiest pet food, because like so many people who love their animals, I would have done anything to protect him.
But what I discovered during my search for the ideal pet food was a deeply disturbing picture of the pet food industry, one that consumers never see. And that matters, because people are making choices for animals they love without being given the full truth about what those choices may involve. Industry practices and regulatory gaps mean that some of the things legally permitted in pet food are things people would never deliberately feed their pets if they knew.
That’s when Pet Food Safety News, formerly Poisoned Pets, was born.
WHAT YOU’LL FIND HERE
Pet Food Safety News exists to share the part of the story that most pet food websites avoid because it is uncomfortable. I investigate and uncover industry practices, understand the laws governing regulation, and what’s legally allowed in pet food.
With this knowledge, my mission is to keep consumers informed and to help guide them toward better, safer, higher-standard choices, including human-grade pet food, certified organic ingredients, humanely raised animals, and tightly regulated fishing. If you have ever stood in a pet food aisle or searched online trying to make the safest choice for a pet you love, you know how difficult it can be to know what to trust. And I’ll answer the questions that help you find those better choices.
Here at Pet Food Safety News, you’ll be notified of pet food recalls and safety alerts, investigations into troubling industry practices, information about lawsuits involving pet food companies, and resources for people trying to get help when they need it most.
CREATING INDUSTRY CHANGE
But it’s not enough to educate and inform consumers; it’s about advocating for better pet food, stronger laws, and greater transparency.
That includes collaborating with Federal regulators and State Feed Control, and serving as a consumer advisor to the Association of American Feed Control Officials, the non-profit organization that helps set standards for both animal feeds and pet foods in the United States.
And I’m collaborating on the first-ever consumer-driven website discussing sustainability and the impact of pet food manufacturing on global health.
INDEPENDENCE AND TRANSPARENCY
It is critical to understand that Pet Food Safety News is an independent, donation-supported consumer resource. I have no financial ties, sponsorships, affiliate arrangements, or other associations with pet food companies.
I do not accept industry funding, I do not monetize any part of the website, and I do not recommend specific brands or pet foods. The project is funded entirely by individual donations, which help keep Pet Food Safety News independent and free from industry influence.

Because you love from your heart everyone in the animal, fowl, fish world, you HAVE to do this blog to expose the corruption of the industries along with the powers that be. So much chemistry, rules and regulations. So much deceit, greed and suffering. I am glad that you lighten the message, because it isn’t all bad news. You have shown us that there are caring folks out there that are learning the truth and picking up the torch.

Mollie,
Thanks for uncovering a modern crisis foisted upon millions of unsuspecting pet lovers thinking the pet food industry is looking after the best interest of their pet’s dietary needs.
Now that I know there is no turning back.

Hi Mollie,
“Good on ya” for researching this subject, which has spill over into human processed food, no doubt (blechh).
I was just yesterday asking a friend who is into health
topics (esp. Dr. Mercola) about ingredients as I fed my
cats (calico with eyeliner and black Persian orphan).
He mentioned roadkill, which I’d heard before, with disgust. So his solution is raw egg and sardines.
So, you’re not alone in this, keep up the good work, Jim
